General Information
The ERASMUS+ Traineeship Programme gives students the chance to do a stay at a host organisation in another participating country. It is aimed at helping individuals adapt to the requirements of the EU job market, acquire specific skills highly valued by employers and improve their understanding of the economic and social environment of the receiving country, as well as gain invaluable work experience.
Finding an Institution to Undertake a Traineeship
Students who are interested in undertaking a traineeship period within the framework of the ERASMUS+ Traineeship Programme shall be responsible for finding a suitable organisation or company. The International Relations Office website provides students with a 'traineeship search engine'.
Students must provide the direct contact details for the company they have found.
Once they have done so, they must provide the SRI with a contact from the entity in question.
All students shall be assigned a tutor who will be responsible for assisting them in all matters regarding academic recognition for the traineeship.
The mobility coordinator shall inform the student whether s/he will be their tutor, or if it will be somebody else. Master's and PhD students must contact their study programme leadership or coordinator who will inform them about suitable candidates to be their mobility coordinators.
Types of Placements
- Curricular placements: these placements are included on the curricula for official UIB programmes.
- Extracurricular placements: these types of placements are voluntary for students and run during their training period. Although they are not included on curricula, they may lead to credit recognition by the relevant Credit Transfer and Recognition Commission. In any event, and in accordance with current legislation, these placements may lead to the corresponding mention being included in the European Diploma Supplement, or any other similar document, where appropriate.
- Traineeships for recent graduates: students enrolled for the last year of their programme may participate in this call, provided that the traineeship is undertaken in the year immediately following the end of their study programme. Students must apply during the final year of their degree programme.
Length
The minimum study period is two months and may not exceed 12 months within one study cycle (undergraduate, master and PhD).
Students who have previously completed an ERASMUS+ stay may apply for another exchange, provided that the two stays combined do not exceed 12 months within the same study cycle.
Students may not benefit from an ERASMUS+ study grant and an ERASMUS+ traineeship grant at the same time. Nonetheless, they may take advantage of both provided that the stays are undertaken consecutively; in other words, the dates do not overlap.
Students may request to extend their stay for up to 12 months, as per the criteria and requirements set out in the call.
Enrolment
In order to undertake a specific curricular or extracurricular placement, students must be enrolled on the programme whose core, general and specific skills are linked to those for the placement (except recent graduates).
Selected students who wish to have their placement period recognised must enrol at the corresponding UIB Admin Services (except recent graduates).
Insurance
Medical insurance
Students must apply for the European Health Insurance Card (valid for the entire stay) before the mobility period starts. Where necessary, students will have to take out a personal insurance policy including any cover required by the host institution.
Accident Insurance
Prior to their stay, students must agree to take out an accident insurance policy that covers at least any injuries they may suffer whilst undertaking the tasks on their placement, in the event that this is not provided by the host company or organisation.
Civil Liability Insurance
Students who undertake their placement within the framework of the ERASMUS+ Traineeship programme will be covered by the UIB's civil liability insurance policy for all students enrolled at the University.

Destinations
Where can you go?
- The twenty-seven EU Member States
- Countries in the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway)
- Other countries: Turkey, North Macedonia and Serbia.
Please note
Companies, educational centres, research institutes or other organisations may all be host institutions. Nevertheless, EU institutions and organisations managing EU programmes shall not be eligible as host organisations (so as to avoid potential conflicts of interest and/or shared funding), nor national diplomatic representations (embassies, etc.) of the student's home nation in the host country.
Traineeships shall be carried out in an organisation based in one of the participating countries in the ERASMUS+ Traineeship programme, other than Spain.
Financial Support
The Erasmus+ Traineeship grant is a UE contribution to participants' travel and maintenance costs. The grant amount will depend on the destination country. Participating countries are split into the three following cost of living groups:
Long-stay mobility grants: two to twelve months
Host countries | Monthly grant payment
Group 1 | Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway and Sweden | €460 |
Group 2 | Germany, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands and Portugal | €410 |
Group 3 | Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia and Turkey | €360 |
The grant will cover up to a maximum of four months per application. Students not in receipt of a grant may undertake their mobility with their own financial resources (grant-free mobility) within the framework of the ERASMUS+ programme.
Students may choose to extend their stay, provided this does not exceed 12 months. Nonetheless, the ERASMUS+ grant shall not cover funding for all months, in accordance with the previous point.
These grants may be supplemented for students in the following situations:
- Those who have received a general study grant from the Spanish government in the 2021-22 or 2022-23 academic years, as applicable
- Those who have refugee status or the right to secondary protection, or have submitted an application for international protection to the Spanish government
- Those who have a legally accredited disability level equal to or above 33%.
These grants may be supplemented by national and/or regional grants from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, the Autonomous Region, the UIB or other institutions:
Short-stay mobility grants for PhD students: five to thirty days
Mobility activity length | Amount (all EU Member States)
Up to day 14 of the activity | €70 / day
From day 15 to day 30 of the activity | €50 / day |
Students with Special Needs
Students with special needs may apply for a supplementary grant. Please contact the International Relations Office.

Applying for a Place
Requirements

- Master's degree students must have a favourable report from the study programme leadership, which may consult the relevant Academic Commission for the purpose of drawing it up. In turn, PhD students must have a favourable report from their thesis supervisor and programme coordinator, who may also consult the corresponding Academic Commission, if they deem it appropriate
- Students enrolled in the last year of their degree programme, provided that the traineeship is undertaken in the academic year immediately following the end of their studies and they apply for it in their last year
- Be a national, or a temporary or permanent resident of one of the participating countries in the ERASMUS+ programme
- Have been accepted by a public or private organisation based in any of the participating countries to carry out a traineeship during the year set out in the call, and be authorised by the mobility coordinator following the positive appraisal of the Learning Agreement for Traineeships
