Visiting Students (Research Stays and Master's Degree Subjects)
Application Procedure
I) Postgraduate students (master's and PhD) from universities or other higher education institutions from overseas countries who wish to carry out:
a) a supervised research stay at the UIB for developing their doctoral thesis
b) a supervised research stay at the UIB for developing their master's thesis
c) subjects included on one or more of the master's degree programmes available at the UIB
must send the following documents to the Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CEP) or the UIB Doctoral School (EDUIB), <postgrau@uib.es>:
- application form (Spanish / English) for the 'Visiting Postgraduate Students: Research Stays and Master's Degree Subjects at the UIB' programme
- a scanned copy of a valid passport or ID card
- a CV
- a motivation letter and a work plan proposal (cases a and b above)
- a motivation letter and a proposal of master's courses to be taken during the applicant's stay at the UIB (case c above)
- a scanned copy of a letter of recommendation drawn up by the thesis supervisor, for doctoral stays (case a above)
- a scanned copy of a letter of recommendation drawn up by the leadership of the master's degree programme the student is currently undertaking, for master's stays only (cases b and c above).
The letter of recommendation must be signed and stamped, and printed on headed paper from the home university. It must state that it is signed by the PhD thesis supervisor or the master's programme leadership, depending on the type of stay to be undertaken.
II) The CEP or the EDUIB will forward the student's application to the master's or PhD programme leadership at the UIB, who will assess its adequacy, and, if applicable, accept it and assign the candidate a suitable tutor. This acceptance, should it take place, entails no funding obligation on behalf of the UIB.
In the event that the candidate is already acquainted with any lecturer from the UIB who could prove a suitable tutor, this should be clearly stated in the application form, since it would substantially simplify the process.
III) The student will receive an e-mail from the CEP or the EDUIB confirming or denying his/her participation in the 'Visiting Postgraduate Students: Research Stays and Master's Degree Subjects at the UIB' programme.
Arrival and Registration at the UIB
I) First of all, students must contact their tutor at the UIB.
II) Then, they must report to the International Relations Office (SRI), located on the university campus (Cas Jai building) in order to finalise his/her admission to the UIB.
III) And, finally, they must formalise their enrolment at the CEP or EDUIB, and pay the following fees:
- Admin fees for PhD studies (case a above) and master's studies (cases b and c above): an approximate total amount of between €50 and €70, pursuant to the decree whereby the public fees and prices for the academic and administrative services of official programmes at the UIB are approved, corresponding to the opening of the academic record, the issuance of the student card - which provides access to all UIB services, such as libraries, laboratories, IT resources, etc. - and the student's insurance.
- Tuition fees for undertaking a supervised stay in which to develop a master's thesis (case b above): €100 per month of the stay.
- Tuition fees for master's degree subjects (case c above): €50 per credit.
